I am by no means a newborn expert, but since this is my 3rd baby, I kind of know what you need right away and what you don’t. I feel like with your first baby everything is so overwhelming and you think you need everything, or everyone is trying to sell you on things you must have… but by your 3rd, you realize you don’t need much at all in the beginning.
I brought quite a few things with me when we moved to Hong Kong since I still have a 17 month old. I also brought a few of my favorite newborn products “just in case” since I always kind of hoped we’d have a 3rd baby somewhere down the road. Sharing all my must haves here for you mamas!
Doona Carseat and Stroller– So this is new to me! I’ve actually been wanting one of these for a few years, especially for travel, but due to the price, I never ended up getting one. When we lived in San Diego it was very easy to just use my Uppababy Vista stroller where the infant carseat just snaps right into the base and you are ready to go. But since living in Hong Kong we do not have a car and rely on Uber and taxi to get around the city anywhere we cannot walk to. We needed something easy to get in and out of a car as quickly as possible and this product is perfect as it turns from a carseat to stroller in seconds. Totally worth the money and will be so nice once we can start traveling again.
Solly Baby Wrap– Hands down my most used baby product from both my prior pregnancies. I am a huge fan of baby wearing and this one is so soft and something that I used every single day. I used the same wrap with both of my girls and just bought a new neutral one for baby boy. I know wraps can be a little bit intimidating at first but if you follow this company on Instagram they have videos and tutorials to teach you how to tie it properly. Highly recommend this though!
Snuggle Me Infant Lounger- This one is actually new to me for this baby. I’ve read such good things about the Snuggle Me and also Dock-a-Tot I wanted to try one out for this baby. The Snuggle Me was the only one that would ship to Hong Kong that’s why I ultimately decided on this one. I really needed somewhere to be able to lay baby that is safe and since I was not able to bring my Mamaroo Swing I thought this was the next best thing. I love how it can fit babies up to 9 months and can be brought along when you travel too!
Halo Bassinet- Love this bassinet for baby! I have one I used with both of my girls and I’m so bummed I couldn’t bring it to Hong Kong with me. We knew before moving here that we would be living tight so I couldn’t bring anything with me that would take up too much space… plus we had no idea we’d be having a 3rd baby at the time we moved. I love the swivel feature and it was so handy for those middle of the night feedings.
Comotomo Bottles- I have tried a bunch of bottles through the years and these are the best ones I have found. My girls took to them right away and they are so easy to clean. They come in a 5oz size for newborn and 8oz size for a few months in.
Uppababy Vista- This is my favorite stroller! And trust me I have a bunch of strollers, just ask my husband haha! I know this one is not really for small spaces, but I love how smooth it rides, it has plenty of storage, works perfect from newborn through the toddler years and can easily transform into a double stroller or add a ride along board for a 3rd. I’m so sad I have only been able to use this one once since moving to Hong Kong because it’s much too big for Asia. But if you are in the market for a stroller that will grow with you, invest in this one!
Uppababy Bassinet Stand- So this one goes hand in hand with the stroller. One of my biggest worries when we found out we were pregnant is where is baby going to sleep. Since I couldn’t bring my Halo Bassinet with me to Hong Kong, and we only have a small 3 bedroom apartment, I knew I needed something small that would fit easily in our room. Luckily Amazon could deliver this to me and the bassinet I already had with my Vista stroller made a perfect place for baby to sleep in the beginning. Another thing I loved about this is that you can purchase THIS hamper insert to use with the stand after baby is grown out of the bassinet so you can reuse the stand. It folds up nice and small for storage too.
Ergo Baby Carrier– Could not live without this. Especially living in Hong Kong where it’s pretty much impossible to use a stroller unless you stick close to home or take a taxi to somewhere indoors. We already have one for London but since we needed a 2nd one for this baby I decided to get this newer model since you do not need an infant insert. This is something we will be using everyday.
Portable Noise Machine- This is another little gem I couldn’t live without. We got our babies adjusted to a noise machine right from the beginning and now we have them in each of our girls rooms plus one in our room. We have the full size versions too but left them in the US since they are not compatible with the plugs in Hong Kong. The mini ones plug into a USB so they are very handy to travel with too.
Babyzen Yoyo Stroller– I told you I was obsessed with strollers! We bought our Yoyo for the girls before we moved to Hong Kong since it folds up super small to store and it fits as a carry on when on a plane. We love this stroller and it’s the only one we can use while living in Asia. I love how it also has THIS infant adapter so it can grow with your baby too.
Barefoot Dreams Baby Blanket– Everyone’s favorite blanket but in a baby version! It’s seriously just as soft as the regular size blankets but so adorable for babies! London has the blush leopard one and carries it around everywhere. So I picked up this sand one for baby too!
Baby Bjorn Bouncer- I do not have this product yet, but friends of mine in Hong Kong have it and love it for their babies. It folds up super small and it’s great for small spaces. I’m sad we didn’t bring my Mamaroo Swing but again, we had to be careful what we brought with us due to space and electrical plugs.
Angelcare Baby Bath– I’ve had this little bath tub since my first baby and used it all the time when my girls were little. I’m glad I brought mine with me so I can use it for Weston too. When I travel I take this with me and turn it upside down in the suitcase and just pack clothes in and around it. It’s pretty small so it stores easily too.
Ryan & Rose Pacifier– So neither of my girls really took to a paci but I always try them just in case. I heard really good things about this specific brand so I got one to try and so far this is the only one Wes will take. They make different ones for different stages too so I think it’s worth trying out.
Footed Onsie- I know there are sooo many footed onsies out there, but I found this one on Amazon and love it so much. It’s a nice thick material, but very soft and very good quality. I actually have it in a few colors because I love it so much. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a good quality basic for baby to wear over and over.
