So we are finally settling into our new home in Hong Kong. Our temporary apartment is very nice and it’s starting to feel like home. We’re still getting used to having so much less space but we’re making it work. We’ve been spending a lot of time house hunting to find the perfect apartment. It’s so hard to find the perfect place but I think we’ll know it when we see it! I’ve been learning so much navigating the city by myself with the girls. It’s not easy but we’re learning as we go. I’m still trying to keep the girls schedule as normal as I can while venturing out. So far so good!
I think the hardest part has been not speaking the language and trying to figure out how much things cost here. Thank goodness for my money translator app! Food is so expensive here though! Most things are imported so everything is way more expensive. You can buy more local fruits and veggies and things but I’m very particular about where food comes from that we eat.
It has been a little tough getting around with 2 without a stroller most of the time. In California I had my Uppababy Vista double stroller that I used all the time and it was so easy to just throw it in the car and go. Here in Hong Kong we do not have a car so we rely on walking most of the time, Uber, taxi, trolley, train…. public transport is so easy and convenient here there really is no need to have a car. The city is so crowded and the streets are very narrow and steep there is no way to get around with a big stroller. We ended up buying the Babyzen Yoyo before we moved and it has seriously been the best investment. If you’re not familiar with this stroller, it’s very light weight and can fold up very quickly and easily to carry on an airplane and fit in the overhead. It’s been amazing having this with us to jump in a taxi quick or the train. Pretty much everyone in Hong Kong with kids uses this stroller….it’s that good!
Here’s to hoping we find a great apartment with amazing views like we have now! I kind of feel like we are on House Hunters trying to find the perfect place haha! I know it’s out there we just have to find it. In the meantime though we’re just enjoying this part of our journey and we’re having fun making memories as a family.
